Pogo: REMIX WORLD

So what is Pogo? Rather WHO is Pogo? Pogo is the genius artist behind Disney and other movie remixes. Taking a familiar soundtrack, and making it a head bobbing remix.

“My name is Nick Bertke, better known on the web and in the music scene as Pogo. …I’ve spent so much time making music that it’s now all I do with my life. I have worked for major studios including Disney Pixar and Showtime, found myself in the Wall Street Journal, performed for YouTube Play at the Guggenheim Museum, and have managed to share my music with over 11 million people on YouTube to whom I owe everything for their overwhelming love and support.”

I am SUCH a fan, so today’s blog includes my top 3 fav’s of his remixes, which was extremely hard to do. It looks like I’m going to have to add more to my list soon as Pogo embarks on his “Remix World” Project. Not only does Pogo discover beats and songs hidden inside movies, he’s decided to use his talents to capture the essence of people and places in the world. He’s already done one from Johannesburg, South Africa. WATCH:

“The goal of this project is to travel the world in search of sights, sounds, voices and chords, and use them to compose and shoot a track and video for each major culture of the world. It will be funded solely by you the listener, and will be released worldwide on CD, DVD, and here at PogoMix.net.”

I can not wait to see these. I think it is a fantastic new take on remixes & documentary film making. This is the kind of video art that I want to see win an Oscar. 2012? 2013? This is the guy to watch, musically and more.

PS: Pogo edits the videos too, not just the music. Which, being an editor myself having to cut music videos, I have so much respect for. Word.

3. ‘Alice’, composed using chords and vocal samples recorded from the Disney film ‘Alice In Wonderland’. Classic Pogo

2. ‘Expialidocious’. The track is composed of a sine wave bass, custom drum sequences, and sounds recorded from the Disney film ‘Mary Poppins’. Beautiful, deep, and stuck in my head!
