It is undeniable that the Nintendo Entertainment System single handedly brought the video game industry back from the dead in the 80′s and kicked off a revolution that would result in an industry worth 10+ billion dollars. Now that we are many generations into what Nintendo started, those games that made NES famous have not been forgotten. We here at GoodNatureDog.com have decided to pick our top 5 NES games, and encourage you to tell us what your favorite NES games are.
5. Little League Baseball: Championship Series
Play your way to the champions of the Little League World Series.
I haven’t found this game on anyones top NES games list, but this is one of my favorite baseball games ever made for any video game console. I am an avid baseball fan so maybe that’s why this tops my list, but there is no denying that this game was fun. There was nothing like giving an ass whooping to your opponent, while hitting homerun after homerun with Albert, and striking out batter after batter with like swerve ball and fast ball slow ball (yea the physics weren’t realistic for pitching).
4. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game
Shredder and his Foot Clan are causing all sorts of trouble around New York City, including the kidnappings of April O’Neil and Splinter. It’s up to the Ninja Turtles to rescue their friends, then fight their way to the Technodrome for a final showdown with Krang and Shredder. Along the way, they’ll also face off against mousers, Bebop, Rocksteady, Baxter Stockman, and two of Krang’s Stone Warriors, Lieutenant Granitor and General Traag. While this game lacks the crisp graphics of its arcade counterpart, it does offer two brand new levels not found in the arcade as well as tons of Pizza Hut product placement.
This game was fun. It had all your favorite characters from the TMNT world and was a challenge to beat completely through without using a cheat code. It was a far improvement from the first title, and much more easy to play.
3. Tetris
Arrange falling tetrads to create lines in Nintendo’s adaptation of the classic Soviet mind control weapon masquerading as a highly addictive game. For maximum points, create a tetris by clearing four lines at once.
I got my first look at what addiction was at a young age when I played Tetris for the first time. Who would have thought stacking different shaped blocks would be so much damn fun! Tetris is such a simple concept but never gets old, plus the music, once heard, will never leave your head. Oh, Alexey Pajitnov.
2. Super Mario Brothers 3
Bowser sends his seven Koopa Kids to steal magic royal wands from seven of the kingdoms in Mushroom World. The Koopa Kids use them to turn the countries’ kings into animals and create chaos and strife in Mushroom World. While Mario is busy dealing with his children, Bowser kidnaps the Princess and brings her to his giant Dark Land castle. Can Mario defeat Bowser and restore peace to Mushroom World?
This game is the best for a reason. It was fun for everyone, no matter if you had played other Mario games in the past or not. The gameplay was beautiful, a far step up from it’s two predecessors. It also added to the game more then just the mushroom power ups and fire flowers for Mario. It added in the P-Wing, Frog Suit, Hammer Bros. Suit, and Tanooki Suit making Mario even more bad ass. Oh and lets not forget to mention all the new enemies that were added as well as the warp whistle!
1. Super Mario Brothers
Bowser, King of the Koopas has taken over the Mushroom Kingdom! He has kidnapped Princess Toadstool and her entourage and his armies now roam the land. Only Mario and Luigi, a pair of plucky Italian plumbers, can save the day.
Well folks, what is there to say about this game that hasn’t already been said. This game is king!
