As everyone might know by now, we Good Nature Dogs are big fans of Doctor Who. So it will come as no surprise that I am writing this next article of a few new things Doctor Who.
I just got a hold of Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol, which is the Christmas special for 2010, starring Matt Smith as the Doctor and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond. As far as Christmas specials go, this one was by far the best. I would even be willing to say that this episode is one of the best of the Doctor Who reboot. Visually this special is amazing. The cinematography is just absolutely beautiful, using color and light to paint an amazing story. What would a Doctor Who special be without bringing out some actor that is known both in the states and in the UK? Starring as Kazran Sardick the equvalant of the evil Mr. Scrooge of Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol is Michael Gambon who you may notice from the role of Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series. It is always great to see Gambon in a role, his voice and presence make him a pleasure to watch on screen, and his role in this special does not disappoint. And as with all the specials, this one is a stand alone Doctor episode, meaning it focuses mainly on the Doctor. It does however make brief use of Amy and Rory, which at least reassures us that the couple will be appearing in Series 6. This brings me to my next point.
They have finally released a teaser trailer for Series 6 which first seven episodes are set to air this spring 2011. It will follow plot lines from Series 5 such as the silence that makes the Doctors Tardis explode at the end of series 5, and more importantly the identity of River Song. It also brings a new first to the series, and that is filming on location in the States. Watching the trailer any true Doctor Who fan can’t help but get excited by imagining what might be in store for the new Series. If you watch the trailer closely you may notice that control room of the wanna-be Tardis from the Series 5 episode the Lodger makes an appearance, which hopefully means that they will go into that possible story line. Enough said, just watch the trailer.
And this now leads me into my final bit. The Doctor Who series has been nominated for Two National Television Awards. The two catagories are Best Drama, and Best Drama Performance Matt Smith. If you are a Who fan go to http://www.nationaltvawards.com/vote and voter for Doctor Who and Matt Smith, and hopefully both will win on January 26th.
